My favorite part of the holidays are the lights and decorations. It brings a light to me, a feeling of delight.
Before this mindset, the only time Christmas has been fun for me is when I was child, had children of a certain age and now a grandchild, although he has no idea what it’s all about yet. Backstory: We used to take the kids out looking at lights and when we got home, presents would be under the tree and all that was left of the cookies and milk were crumbs. Magic, I say. So, on a Friday night, I cruised the streets nearby with a friend and we enjoyed the show. We drove by one Lake Helen house and did a double take. The front yard was filled with angles – sheets, wings, white heads with halos. There’s got to be at least 20 or more. It was a little creepy at first. This year I noticed a manger with Mary and Joseph. There’s also a scripture on the side of the house. I have come to like it. On the way to get the angel snapshot I saw a Santa and two reindeer on the rooftop of my favorite pizza joint in Lake Helen. Big fun! I decided at that point, I would have to get that photo too. Last night we had the annual Candlelight Service in Colby Memorial Temple in Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp. There were several solo acts to include singers, a pianist and a harpist. The sing-along was fun and of course, I was one of the 15 or so mediums to give short readings to those who attended. And yes, the weather cooperated (40 something degrees). Really made me feel like it’s winter. It’s been a beautiful winter here in Florida. I did spy some freezing temperatures for Christmas. Hoping it won’t dip for too long. Just made me think of my good old Wisconsin days of plugging in the car, running out to start the car, so it could get warm and then heading out 30 minutes later. I do not miss those days. Not too long ago my adult daughter asked how we got the presents under the tree. She said she could never figure that out. My response: Magic. Next year’s Christmas should be that much more fun since my grandson will be 2½ years old. Good times! Peace
