I’m an adventure grandma. I took my grandson to the Barberville Yard Art Emporium not too long ago. There’s gigantic yard art and he loved it. He took a shine to a tiny glass turtle that’s shell had multiple colors on it. I had a vision that the turtle would break.
I thought about it and looked around for wooden pieces. There was a sea turtle on a log made of wood. I went with the tiny turtle instead. We got home. He took his nap with it and couldn’t wait to show mommy and daddy. He dropped it in the process of showing, and it broke. The little guy, just over 2, said over and over again, ‘I broke it.’ I felt bad. We said we would get glue and fix it. The next day I decided to drive the 20 minutes to get another one. I stopped to get a hot chai tea. I was minding my own business and having a fabulous day. About 10 minutes into my drive, the lid came off my drink. Thankfully, I spilled only a little on me. I fixed it and then five minutes from the place the lid came off again and it went everywhere. I thought, ‘Girl, why are you messing with the natural order of things.’ I was determined. Once there, I got myself cleaned up. I bought two tiny turtles and the sea turtle on the log. Of course, when I gave them to my grandson, he was happy. He accidentally broke one of the turtles a day or two later and the third one is still in one piece. Glue, we need glue. The wooden one sits on the fireplace mantel. Funny how I should’ve known better to go against the natural order of things. First, I saw that it would break; second, he broke it; finally, I went to get a new one, which broke again. I will not be repeating that cycle again, said every grandma out there (lol). Another sign: I spilled my hot chai. I had been drinking way too many of those lately and I knew I should quit. Ha. A week or so after the big spillage, I went to get a chai, which was not the first since the spill. While I waited, I thought of it. When I glanced at the cup, I saw the lid was not tightly on. Interesting that the thought occurred to me at that moment. Was it because of the one time, or did I know? Oh, here’s a good one. My daughter hosted Thanksgiving again this year. It’s always a fabulous time. I was at the house the day before. She was preparing the homemade macaroni and cheese. I saw the shredded cheese and took a bite. I said to apparently deaf ears, ‘This is spicy.’ When I arrived the next day, I learned that my daughter baked that macaroni and cheese, tasted it and said it was too spicy. She was at the store for more cheese, so she could make it again. I love the little glimpses I get in life. Do I always follow them? Obviously not – turtle anyone, although I’m impressed with seeing the lid off. I’m sure some of you have had little glimpses – seeing, knowing, hearing, feeling, smelling. Embrace them! Blessings of Peace and Love!
