Is there a difference between judgement and opinion? It was a topic of discussion many years ago when I first came to classes in Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp. Back then, I thought they were not one of the same.
As I’m sure I did back then, I looked up the definitions once again – always the reporter. Judgement, according to a dictionary online, is ‘the ability to make considered decisions or come to sensible conclusions.’ Opinion, according to a dictionary online, is ‘a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.’ I decided to ask my daughter what her thoughts were. Of course, she was only too happy to share. ‘They are the same thing.’ I agreed momentarily. I get that when each of us forms an opinion about something that it could be construed as a judgement in a way. However, it is our judgement of our opinion, which could be swayed at any point and time. It does not necessarily mean that we have judgement on another for their opinion, although some people do. Honestly, the judgement definition is not that great. What exactly are ‘sensible conclusions?’ It really comes down to the person’s state of mind, and their intentions. Everything is subjective. Here’s a good one: Is gossip, truly gossip? The definition, according to a dictionary online, is ‘casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true.’ I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: ‘If the information is true, it is not gossip.’ And again, it really depends on the person’s intentions when speaking about something or others. How ‘bout this one – is it greatful or grateful? Of course, it’s grateful. But in my opinion, it should be greatful. Is anyone out there judging me as less than because of it? If so, take a look inside. What we see in others is within. This blog is my opinion. It’s OK if you have another opinion about it. By doing this are you judging me? I don’t believe so. To me, it’s a conversation. Many Blessings of Peace and Love!
