No!

Is a sentence. Some people just don’t get it. When I say no, it’s no.

I’ve been a writer, well since the 6th grade. It took me a minute to come back around to it. When I decided to further my education, albeit later in life, I wasn’t even going to be a writer. I planned on dental hygiene. Science was not my thing although I muddled through and earned a B.

I wrote for The Angler at Lake-Sumter Community College, now Lake-Sumter State College, and Central Florida Future, now KnightNews, at the University of Central Florida. My first freelance gig was at the Lake Edition of the Orlando Sentinel.

I wonder sometimes what people think being a writer is.  On the other hand, when you’re a writer, everyone wants something from you.

Backstory: I read one of my blogs to a friend recently and she asked if I wrote that myself with no help from the Internet. I thought it was cute, but wondered what? I said I had been writing for years and it’s second nature. Another time, a friend was having difficulty writing a bio. I asked her few things and wrote it. Of course, she edited. Ugh!

It usually takes me about 30 minutes to write this blog. I could take over an hour editing, making sure everything is perfect, at least according to me. The other day I wrote an important email that took 15 minutes. I decided to lighten the tone and wrote a beginning paragraph in like three minutes. Someone said that ‘wordsmithing’ was my thing.

Backstory: One time I didn’t want to write an article, but I had a deadline for it, so I had to. I didn’t like the topic and couldn’t bite my teeth into it. Finally, I prayed to my writing guides to assist – success. By the way, there’s no such thing as writer’s block – it’s just wanting to do it.

I truly want to help people, places and things. But when I do not see the reasoning behind writing something, I will not do it. Because I care, I
want to explain myself as to why I don’t want to do it.

People have their own ideas, which is great. Write it!

Just say, ‘No’ PERIOD.
