Screams – screeching screams echoed through the main street of Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp. They were coming from Hotel Cassadaga, which opened its haunted hotel last night and will continue for two more nights if you’re looking to get a little scare on.
Why do people want to be scared? I can’t even watch scary movies. The last one I saw was ‘Pet Cemetery.’ It was about 20 years ago, and it gave me nightmares for more than a month. To this day, scary movies are out.
To dull the sound, I normally flip on my air conditioning. It was too cold last night. I waited for last call at 11 p.m.
The situation last night was that long line that reached down into the Spiritualist Camp, a normally peaceful community. Incidentally, I do have a Facebook Page named ‘Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp – Mayberry It Is.’ And it’s true, this is Mayberry.
It does seem just a tad bit rowdier than ‘normal.’ Perhaps, it has something to do with people being restricted for the past two years. I’ve had the honor of Halloween weekend for four years, some much longer than that.
Backstory: I so loved Halloween – the costumes were a struggle. I’m not the sewing type, but I always took the kids trick-or-treating in the neighborhood. As they got older, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios was the place to be.
Now it’s less than 100 feet from my front door. This here in Cassadaga is a ruckus. The Spiritualist Camp did its thing – Fall Fest, which included mini readings. I do know how to have fun – I dressed as a witch with long white hair, a pointy hat, a pair of boots and broom. The camp also did tours last night and will tonight and Sunday night. People will be taking photos in hopes to capture orbs, also known as Spirit. I can hear the clicking of the cameras, now. LOL
Two more nights to go and then peace will reign, at least in my neck of the woods. Really, I’m not a fuddy-duddy. I know how to have a good time. It’s just not this.
